Few Californians would neglect a '57 Corvette or beachfront property. You take care of the things you value. And Californians definitely value our forests, water, and every facet of the environment.

So why have we allowed our public forestlands to become tinderboxes and made it increasingly cumbersome to own private forests in this state? We should manage our government-run lands before they burn, not find ourselves spending billions fighting fire when they do. And if we want to keep forestlands looking like forests, we should make it easier for generations of forestland owners to continue their legacy
